has told Phil Jones he is staying put at Manchester United – for now.

The defender has been linked with a move to a number of Premier League clubs – including Arsenal and Stoke – after being left out of Mourinho’s squad for United’s first three games of the season.

But sources close to Jones, left, say Mourinho has told the player he needs him and has given him assurances he will get games as the season progresses. United face a campaign of 60-plus matches if they make progress in the Europa League and domestic cup competitions. But Stoke will not give up their chase.
