PICKS OF THE DAY

-

Comedy: Friday Night Dinner, 10pm, C4

The appearance of a For Sale sign outside the Goodman house causes consternation for the boys. Adam and Jonny are determined to stop their parents from selling the family home but they might not have much of a say in the matter. The idea of the Goodmans relocating appeals to neighbour Jim, though, and he appears on the doorstep as a potential buyer. Simon Bird (left) and Tom Rosenthal star in the concluding episode of the current series.

Soap: Coronation Street, 7.30pm & 8.30pm, ITV

Across two visits to Weatherfield it is all kicking off on the cobbles tonight. Nick reveals that he and Leanne are back together and she will be moving in with him, with her adopted son Simon also in tow. The news prompts a bewildered reaction from Nick’s mum Gail but that is soon forgotten when a certain Tracy Barlow (Kate Ford, above left) wanders into the Rovers and asks Leanne when her baby is due. Talk about awkward.

Property: George Clarke’s Amazing Builds By The Sea, 8pm, C4

When most of us think of our dream home we imagine something on the coast. If you are one of those people then this is a must-watch for you. Hosted by one of TV’s leading men, George Clarke, the show looks back on some memorable builds by the sea. The properties we see include a multifunctional beach hut in Dorset and a modern update of a bathing machine that dates back to Victorian times in Kent. Clarke (left) also profiles some of his personal favourites, bringing to mind a holiday home with stunning views and an extraordinary lifeguard tower. And there is also time to review the work Clarke and Will Hardie carried out to spruce up a humble beach hut.

Wildlife: Highlands: Scotland’s Wild Heart, 9.30pm, BBC2

This has been a thoroughly enjoyable series and we’re sad to see it come to an end after tonight’s fourth and final offering. People like Dave Anderson and Simon Smith from Forestry Commission Scotland work to protect landscapes and habitats in the Highlands and their efforts on behalf of osprey chicks and red kites (above) are shown tonight as they do their bit for the little creatures.

Film: Bird On A Wire, 10.40pm, ITV

Mel Gibson (right) and Goldie Hawn form a formidable partnership in this comedy adventure. A police informant enters a witness protection scheme following the conviction of a drug dealer. Years later he is recognised by his old college sweetheart at a petrol station, meaning his cover is blown and the pair must go on the run – a situation made worse by the release of the imprisoned dealer. NB: 11.15PM IN ULSTER/NOT IN EIRE
