Drinkwater quenches Vardy’s thirst

- Graham Read

JAMIE VARDY believes he has restored his telepathy with Danny Drinkwater. He hit his first league goal of the season after Drinkwater dinked a 40-yard pass inside Jordi Amat, allowing the striker to beat him for pace before blasting the ball in off a post.

the moment, and it is little wonder many are still shaking their heads at the midfielder being binned from England’s Euro 2016 squad – an omission now corrected by Sam Allardyce.

“It’s getting a bit too frequent now isn’t it – Drinky to Vards again,” said Vardy. “I was playing right on the leash and so it was the perfect ball for me to get past the defender and just smash the ball in. He has carried on exactly where he left off last season.”

Wes Morgan fired home a second early in the second half and when Amat brought down Shinji Okazaki, Leicester should have sewn it up. But Riyad Mahrez fluffed another penalty and Swansea made the Foxes sweat after Leroy Fer grabbed one back with 10 minutes to go.

But this was more like the Leicester of last term and the only blot was keeper Kasper Schmeichel pulling up with a persistent hernia problem, which he will have surgery on today.

Swans boss Francesco Guidolin had not seen Vardy ‘live’ before and admits it is quite a scary sight. “He’s not only fast, but technically and tactically clever. He will cause problems in the Champions League,” said Guidolin.
