Prosperity is spreading

FOREIGN investment, employment – all the figures are good. Even the uncertainty in the run-up to the referendum has not deterred businesses overseas from looking favourably on the UK. Across Britain thousands of jobs have been created or safeguarded. And there is no indication that any of this will change once Britain leaves the EU.

What’s more the latest Barclays UK Prosperity map shows that all regions in Britain are more prosperous than they were last year. Its scores are based on gross domestic product (GDP), house prices, charitable giving and average house prices. This encouraging trend is not simply confined to London and the South-east but across the United Kingdom as whole.

We also know that people are out shopping and that the high street has had a buoyant summer, showing a confidence in the economy that goes against Project Fear’s doom-mongering.

Optimism about Britain’s future now has a basis in hard fact.
