Bannerman’s right, if anybody needs a deal it’s the EU
THREE cheers for Conservative MEP David Campbell Bannerman for sticking up for Britain and telling Angela Merkel’s mob where to get off (“‘A badly handled Brexit would be trouble for EU’,” August 29).
Chancellor Merkel’s right-hand man, Sigmar Gabriel, has been shouting his mouth off, saying it would cause a problem for the remaining EU countries if the UK got all it wanted from the Brexit negotiations.
He claims other countries would start to abandon the superstate and adds the union would be in big trouble. He also vowed to ensure the EU doesn’t allow Britain to keep the “nice things” while taking no responsibility.
Mr Campbell Bannerman has branded Gabriel’s words as bravado. Good for him – they are. The MEP is right when he says the EU needs a trade deal more than Britain does and, as he says, what can they do to us in any case? They can’t hurt us.
