IS BBC RIGHT TO SERVE UP REHASHED SITCOMS?
Yes
IF recent episodes are anything to go by I hope there will be plenty more revivals and remakes of some of the best comedy shows from what is the golden era of British television entertainment (“Porridge served up again”, August 29).
I loved watching the revamped Are You Being Served? and Porridge and we could be in for some real treats if BBC bosses care to repeat the exercise.
While the comedy may be a bit nudge-nudge, wink-wink, it’s gentle humour and a refreshing change from a lot of the foul-mouthed smut served up to viewers today. Joanne Garvey, Reading, Berks

THE BBC has some nerve rehashing the likes of Are You Being Served? again – it was poor and outdated the first time. Sitcoms such as this should be consigned to the bin.
The show reinforces outdated gender and racial stereotypes and given the era of the show that might be forgivable if it was remotely funny. Sadly it isn’t.
The Beeb should be encouraging new comedy writers to showcase their talents to a new audience.
Shows such as this should be confined to the odd appearance in those top 10 list programmes so prevalent on our screens today. Paul Glover, Leeds
