Mustafi heard positive vibes
SHKODRAN Mustafi sought the advice of Mesut Ozil before joining Arsenal.
Mustafi, below, has agreed a five-year deal and will seal his £35million switch from Valencia today.
The Germany defender joins fellow countrymen Per Mertesacker and Ozil at the Emirates.
Mustafi, 24, says he was won over by Ozil’s glowing reference about life at Arsenal.
He said: “I talked to Mesut and he told me everything I wanted to know. Everything was positive, so I was quickly convinced.”
Mustafi is aware of Arsenal’s eye-catching style following three years at Everton. He left in 2012 without playing for the first team, and had spells in Italy and Spain.
Mustafi said: “I have always loved Arsenal, I like how they play. It’s not typical English.
“The game is more like in Spain and with the German national team in keeping the ball on the grass.”
Lucas Perez, the £17m Deportivo La Coruna striker, will also sign before tomorrow night’s transfer deadline.
Mustafi’s arrival will see Calum Chambers loaned to Middlesbrough, despite Mertesacker and Gabriel remaining on the treatment table.
