Eagles in Remy loan swoop

- Graham Read

ALAN PARDEW is banking on a reunion with Loic Remy to boost Crystal Palace’s goalscoring woes.

The Palace manager is set to agree a season-long loan deal with Chelsea for the out-of-favour striker.

An option is in place to sign Remy, 29, for £12.5million next summer as Palace aim to add pace to go with the power of new record signing Christian Benteke. Remy is keen to link up again with Pardew after enjoying his most prolific spell in the Premier League at former club Newcastle in 2013-14.

The Frenchman could be joined at Selhurst Park by Ghana frontman Majeed Waris, who is in talks over a £9m switch from French side Lorient.

Palace’s search for firepower is clear. They have already splashed out £27m to bring Benteke to the club from Liverpool this season and have rejected overtures from Tottenham for winger Wilfried Zaha.

The south Londoners have scored just once this season, via defender Scott Dann in Saturday’s 1-1 draw with Bournemouth.

Dann was among Palace’s top scorers last season with a meagre five goals to sum up their long struggle in front of goal. Palace are also chasing another midfielder to replace Mile Jedinak, who joined Aston Villa.

Newcastle’s Moussa Sissoko and Everton’s James McCarthy are among those being considered. But Palace are reluctant to meet Sissoko’s £30m valuation. And while McCarthy is a cheaper option, Leicester are firmly in the box seat for the Irishman’s signature.
