DIY Nick builds a movie career
THANKS to the cinematic success of his old-age heist drama Golden Years, Nick Knowles’ film-making career is reaching new heights.
“I’m writing a multi-million pound blockbuster historical period drama movie for a Hollywood studio,” Nick tells Day & Night.
“We showed Golden Years in Cannes and Beijing where it went down a storm and we were approached by a big US studio to write this next big history drama.”
According to Nick it will have a “likely budget of £100million”.
Golden Years tells the story of a group of disillusioned old age pensioners who decide to rob a number of countryside banks. But it seems that his new flick will tackle weightier topics.
Nick reveals: “I’ve been in Mauritius, where the film is set, negotiating with the government about the film, meeting the president and the board of investment. It’s expected to go into production at the end of next year.”
Keen to remind us that he is no amateur when it comes to writing, the DIY SOS presenter, 53, declares: “I wrote seven comedy history dramas for the BBC called Historyonics, which did amazingly well and are still passed around schools by history teachers.
“People also forget I was a news journalist for years in Australia, the US and UK.”
Golden Years, starring Bernard Hill, Phil Davis and Una Stubbs, is available on DVD at all supermarkets and HMV. To watch the trailer visit http://bit.ly/goldendvd
