Gold medal cyclists Laura and Jason tie the knot ‘in secret’

- By David Pilditch

BRITAIN’S golden Olympic couple Jason Kenny and Laura Trott have married in secret.

Jason, 28, announced the news by posting a cheeky photograph online of the blushing bride in bed the morning afterwards with the couple’s beloved pet dogs.

He tweeted: “Good morning Mrs Kenny.” Laura, 24, went on to describe Saturday’s wedding as “the happiest day of my life”.

The cycling superstars made glorious history at the Rio Olympics last month by scooping five gold medals.

The couple have 10 Olympic golds between them – Laura has four and Jason six.

They told how they planned to celebrate by tying the knot but kept the date secret, before revealing all yesterday in a flurry of social media messages.

The ceremony was at St Alban’s Church in Macclesfield, Cheshire, close to the couple’s cottage home, with the reception at the Hilltop Country House, just outside Prestbury.

The hotel later shared images of the scene inside their marquee which had been lavishly decorated with pink and white paper lanterns hanging from the netted ceiling. Cycling legend Sir Chris Hoy, 40, and his wife Sarra are shown looking on as the couple took to the dancefloor.

The hotel said: “While the whole country was talking about the Bake Off tent, Laura Trott and Jason Kenny were sharing their first dance in ours.”

Jason’s message showed a photograph of a smiling Laura, snuggled up under a duvet.

Also on the bed are the couple’s two dogs, a Springer Spaniel cross called Sprolo and a poodle called Pringle.

Laura later wrote on Instagram: “24.09.16. The happiest day of my life. With all my family and close friends I married my best friend.

“We had the most amazing day and I’m so pleased to finally be able to call Jason my husband.”

Dani King, who won gold with Laura in the women’s team pursuit at London 2012, was among the bridesmaids along with the bride’s sister Emma, 26.

They wore similar dresses to the bride’s white gown, except they were cap-sleeved, kneelength and pale blue-grey. Like the bride, they held tightlypacked bouquets of pastel roses.

Emma, who was maid of honour, later said she “couldn’t have asked for a better day for my baby sister”.

Dani King described it as the “most perfect day”, while wedding guest Joanna Rowsell Shand, part of Laura’s world recordbreaking team which won pursuit gold at Rio 2016, said her friend was “a beautiful bride”.

Laura’s proud father Adrian shared memories of the day by posting a photograph on social media of the smiling couple holding hands as they were showered with confetti outside church.
