Pogba is looking the part

-

For £89m, Pogba is expected to control games and for that dazzling spell he did.

In the second half with the game won, he played within himself. But there are fixtures looming against Liverpool, City and Chelsea when he will need to be at full throttle for the entire game. Now Pogba and United have set the bar, Mourinho does not expect them to lower it. “Obviously we will want more from him and the team,” he said. “The last thing that a team achieve is always consistency. The process starts with playing well and the last thing is to play well consistently. He has to be more consistent, like the team.

“But he and Ander in midfield were a good complement. Ander is a kid who brings intensity under pressure. I like Ander – he is a player I always admired when we were both in La Liga.” Pogba is aware of the expectation but says some of the criticism of him and United has been premature and judgments need to be made at the end of the season.

“It was a big challenge for me to come here, even though I’d won four titles with Juventus,” he said. “But I always go for challenges. And I always say one thing: at the end you will see. We were very focused and produced a big performance on the pitch. Now we want to carry on like this.”

Leicester, though, were masters of their own downfall, losing their defensive focus with three of the four goals conceded simply because players did not do their jobs at corners. It was the third time this season they have conceded four and, although they ‘won’ the second half thanks to substitute Demarai Gray’s fine strike, Danny Simpson says they must sort it quickly ahead of tomorrow’s first Champions League home game against Porto.

The defender said: “Conceding from set-pieces is unlike us and our communication has to be better.”
