Peer treated us like serfs, say villagers in party row
AN ARISTOCRAT has caused uproar after a raucous all-night 21st birthday party kept villagers awake all night.
The Honourable Nancy Morrison threw the lavish celebration on the 9,000acre Fonthill Estate owned by her father, Alastair John Morrison, the 3rd Baron Margadale.
Now the embarrassed peer, who was at the fancy dress do, has issued a grovelling apology after furious residents called police and were kept up by blaring music until 8.30am.
One resident living nearby in Tisbury, Wilts, who asked not to be named, said the music could be heard three miles away. He added: “It should be pointed out to him that although he is a baron he does not have feudal rights over his serfs any more.
“His irresponsible behaviour in allowing such an event to take place demonstrates his contempt for people of lower or equal social class living in the surrounding area.”
Now the baron has issued an apology, saying that student Nancy had informed nearby residents of the celebration on Sunday, September 11.
He added: “I appreciate, though, that the sound carried far further than we could ever have expected and I’m very sorry to all of those who were affected.”
A Wiltshire Council spokesman said: “We’ve spoken to Fonthill Estate about the need to keep noise levels down.”
