Kane puts injury fears to rest

- Matthew Dunn

HARRY KANE provided a boost for Tottenham and England when a scan revealed his ankle injury was not as bad as first thought.

The striker limped out of Spurs’ 1-0 win at Sunderland after scoring the winner and, while boss Mauricio Pochettino refused to put a timescale on the problem, Spurs feared he would be out for months.

However, Tottenham landed in Russia ahead of their Champions League clash with CSKA Moscow to learn a scan back home had returned a better result than anticipated.

The November 6 visit to the Emirates for the north London derby against Arsenal now seems a realistic target for Kane.

And although it means the striker will still miss the upcoming international doubleheader against Malta and Slovenia next month, his return to club action will come just ahead of the England games against Scotland and Spain.

Speaking in Moscow last night, Pochettino said: “After more than two years and a few months as manager, in plenty of situations, I always try to be honest.

“Half an hour ago, we received the information about the scan. It’s much better than we expected. We are happy – it was very positive. But still we cannot give a time of how long it will be for Harry Kane to recover. I am not a doctor, it’s hard to say whether it will be one, two or three weeks.”

Eric Dier and Danny Rose will also miss tonight’s match at CSKA Moscow but are likely to make Sunday’s game with Manchester City. Ben Davies could stand in for Rose at left-back this evening.
