FIFA ‘shame’ over racism

-

FIFA’S decision to scrap the anti-racism task force has been branded “ridiculous” and “shameful.”

Former FIFA vice-president Prince Ali bin Hussein of Jordan made the stinging attack in a Twitter post.

Prince Ali, who twice ran unsuccessfully for the FIFA presidency, said: “The announcement that FIFA is disbanding its anti-racism task force, considering its work done, is incredibly worrying.

“The fight against racism is far from over and the notion that the current FIFA leadership believes the ‘task force’s recommendations have been implemented’ is shameful.

“Never has the need to combat racism been more evident than it is in the world we live in today. It is not something that any governing body with any semblance of responsibility can deny.”

FIFA general secretary Fatma Samoura said: “The task force had a very specific mandate, which it fulfilled, and its recommendations have been turned into a strong programme.” PARIS SAINT-GERMAIN defender Serge Aurier has been given a two-month prison sentence for assaulting a police officer. The incident occurred on May 30 outside a Paris nightclub, when the Ivory Coast star, 23, was arrested. Aurier, left, has also been fined £521 and ordered to pay £1,303 in costs. PSG have confirmed he will appeal. ●LEIGHTON BAINES is struggling to shake off a hamstring injury before Everton’s Premier League match against Crystal Palace at Goodison Park on Friday night.
