Of course, they’d never go for the dough…

A chorus of online sneers greeted Paul Hollywood’s decision last week to become the only member of the current Great British Bake Off team to move with the show across to Channel 4 from the BBC. All the criticism either implicitly or outright accused him of being greedy and going only for the money.

I know nothing about what sort of person Mr Hollywood is – something I share in common with most of his detractors, I suspect. I’d love to know how many of those same people would turn down their salary being instantly quadrupled to do the same job.
