Documentary: On Benefits: Breadline Brits, 8pm, Channel 5
The care given to injured members of the Armed Forces often makes the headlines and this documentary looks at people who have served their country and ended up reliant on state handouts further down the line. One such example is Anthony (left) who stood on an IED and was forced to leave the Royal Lancaster regiment. He is now hoping to undergo ground-breaking treatment that will one day help him to walk again.
Food and drink: The Truth About Meat, 9pm, BBC1
Chris Bavin, fresh from his series with Gregg Wallace, flies solo in this programme as he investigates if there is any truth behind numerous claims about meat. There have been suggestions meat can play a part in combating cancer or heart disease and greengrocer Bavin (above) wants to see if they are justified. Among the interesting questions he asks throughout is does paying more for chicken guarantee better quality?
Drama: The Fall, 9pm, BBC2
With the nights now getting longer, the return of this gripping drama for a third series is particularly welcome. Stella Gibson (Gillian Anderson, left) has finally got her hands on serial murderer Paul Spector and arrested him. There is a problem though – jealous thug James Tyler has shot him and he is fighting for his life in Belfast General Hospital. News of the incident begins to spread and when the press get hold of it, Gibson is questioned by her superiors about her handling of the situation. While all this is going on, Spector’s partner-in-crime Katie is plotting to help him. There are six episodes to enjoy in this series, with Anderson, Jamie Dornan (Spector) and Richard Coyle (Dr Joe O’Donnell) in exceptional form.
Soap: Emmerdale, 7pm and 8pm, ITV
Cain manages to both delight and dismay Charity in tonight’s visit to the Dales but Chas warns him about their relationship. Despite her caution, Cain is simply waiting for the right time to tell the world – something which Brenda accidentally hands to him. Meanwhile, Frank has a surprise in store for Megan (Gaynor Faye, above right, with Michael Praed as Frank) and Carly and Bob tease Jai about his girlfriend.
Drama: Paranoid, 9pm, ITV
Given it seemed to be an open-and-shut case, pressure is beginning to mount on the team as they struggle to wrap things up neatly. Bobby, Nina and Alec all uncover clues that point to the fact that this murder case is unlikely to be straightforward. One of the team then decides to chase their leads a little bit further but it is a decision that has devastating consequences. Robert Glenister and Indira Varma (right) star. NB: NOT IN EIRE
