Migrant farce continues
THE migrants being allowed to leave the Jungle camp in Calais and come to Britain are supposed only to be children who are living there on their own and have relatives in this country. Fresh from the revelation that the Home Office has refused to sanction age checks on the new arrivals comes news that officials have not even checked if some of the migrants really do have family living here.
This supposedly compassionate idea has turned into a complete farce with woeful management by those in charge and a complete unwillingness to address the flaws in the scheme.
This country has a proud record of providing emergency aid where it is most needed. But now we are welcoming strapping teenagers – who were perfectly safe in France – while babies and small children in Syria and surrounding countries still desperately need help. This is where our resources and our efforts need to be targeted.
