Cheryl ‘baffled’ as ex wants his late mother’s ring back
JUST-DIVORCED singer Cheryl has pledged to return a precious ring given by her ex-husband – but says she is “baffled” by his request for it.
Jean-Bernard Fernandez-Versini, 36, asked her to give it back because it is a family heirloom which belonged to his late mother.
But former X Factor judge Cheryl, 33, says he never mentioned the ring, which he gave her to mark their first wedding anniversary, in their long divorce wrangle.
Former Girls Aloud singer Cheryl said she would hand over the ring, which she has not worn for a year, once a formal request has been made to her through lawyers.
The couple’s divorce was finalised in 14 seconds on Thursday.
They had been married for 18 months.
Under the divorce terms, Geordie Cheryl is thought to be able to keep all her estimated £20million fortune.
Bemused
But French restaurateur Jean-Bernard now regrets giving the ring to Cheryl, who is reported to be expecting a child with One Direction star boyfriend Liam Payne, 23.
A source said: “The ring belonged to his mother.
“It is now the 10-year anniversary of her death and he desperately wants it back.
“He is pretty upset about this.”
But Cheryl’s friends said she was baffled by the request.
One said: “She has not worn the ring since last year.
“If the request is made via their lawyers, she will send it back immediately.”
Another pal said: “He has never asked her for it before.”
