Moyes still not short on hope
DAVID MOYES is confident he will survive as Sunderland boss.
Moyes, below, claims that, despite being winless in the league, he retains the support of owner Ellis Short, who has a reputation for being triggerhappy. They spoke on Thursday and Moyes, when asked if Short was sympathetic with his squad ravaged by injuries, said: “Very much so. It hasn’t begun the way I wanted it to but in my conversations with him, I haven’t sensed anything.”
Sunderland travel today knowing even victory will not lift them off the bottom. But at least the match is at the London Stadium – where their hosts have struggled since moving from Upton Park. Moyes will hope Jermain Defoe is at his best against his old club. Hammers boss Slaven Bilic hopes not. Bilic said: “Defoe came back from America maybe better than before, which is amazing. His finishing is absurd. He’s still a great player.”
