EU exit plans ‘respect’ MPs
BREXIT is not an “affront” to Parliament, a government lawyer told the Supreme Court yesterday.
James Eadie QC said leaving Europe by triggering Article 50 without Parliamentary backing would not undermine MPs’ authority.
Mr Eadie, acting for Brexit Secretary David Davis, said: “Our case fully respects, and offers no affront, to parliamentary sovereignty.”
He spoke on the second day of submissions in the landmark case that will decide if Brexit can proceed without further permission from MPs. Legal submissions in the case are expected to finish by tomorrow.
