Democracy must win the day for conned UK voters
NO matter what the outcome of all that is going on with the country’s legal heads, there has to be recognition of the basic fact that this country is the world’s leading democracy (“Judges wrong about EU exit”, December 6).
The subject of in or out of the European Union led to a majority voting out, so their lordships should accept that the will of the majority must stand.
No matter that any person or group of persons might want otherwise, democracy must mean just that.
What I find more outrageous is just how easy it was to con the voters into joining Ted Heath’s Common Market in 1973 which eventually, and by deceit, became a European Union that no one voted for and which it is now becoming increasingly difficult to get out of.
To settle this impasse, all the Prime Minister needs to do is stop all payments to the EU, then it will have no option but to kick us out, with the world standing by to sign up to Great Britain Ltd. Tony Holmes, Kirkby-in-Ashfield, Notts
