Government the only one to benefit from sugar tax

A TAX on sugary drinks will do nothing more than add to Government coffers to waste on things such as foreign aid (“Sugar tax to put 24p on litre of fizzy drink”, December 6).

Have the authorities learned nothing from taxes on alcohol and cigarettes? However much people are nannied they will always choose for themselves no matter what cost is applied.

Find some other way to improve children’s health and not one that involves presiding over the sale and development of thousands of school playing fields. Barrie Warren,
