Players should obey same laws as the rest of us

I HAVE always wondered why a football player or other sports professional is judged and dealt with only by the referee and sporting body when they commit actual or grievous bodily harm and not referred to the police.

If I took someone’s legs out on Oxford Street with studded boots or elbowed them in the face with intent to hurt would I not be arrested and prosecuted rather than simply being told that I was banned from Oxford Street for two weeks? Peter Booth, Altrincham, Cheshire
