Arsenal secure top spot

ARSENAL won Group A against all the odds last night after they thrashed Basle – and Paris Saint-Germain could only draw against Ludogorets.

Lucas Perez, left, scored a hat-trick in Switzerland, with Alex Iwobi also on the scoresheet, as Arsenal progressed from the group stage unbeaten for the first time since 2005-06 – when they reached the final.

The shock failure of PSG to beat Bulgarian minnows Ludogorets in Paris means Arsenal will avoid the likes of Barcelona in the last 16. They could, however, still face teams such as Bayern Munich when the draw takes place on Monday.

Arsenal defender Rob Holding said: “We were aware of the PSG score during the game but we just kept doing our job. We have a great squad here with quality in every position.”
