Chisora hurls table at rival in a new low

- Chris McKenna

DERECK CHISORA sparked chaos by throwing a table at Dillian Whyte during yesterday’s disgraceful press conference in Manchester.

The British Boxing Board of Control will meet today to discuss the shocking scenes and may even call off Saturday’s British heavyweight title fight, although it is unlikely.

Chisora will face at least a hefty fine and has previously lost his licence for fighting with David Haye at a press conference after his 2012 loss to Vitali Klitschko.

Whyte’s trainer Mark Tibbs could also face action after he threw a microphone at Chisora in retaliation.

Matchroom promoter Eddie Hearn will speak again with BBBC chief Robert Smith and will be expected to give assurances the fight at Manchester Arena will go ahead safely.

“I’ve watched it and I’m disgusted by it,” said Smith.

Hearn plans to have separate weigh-ins for the pair tomorrow.

Chisora aggressively slammed down on the table as he reacted angrily to taunts from Whyte, below, during the press conference at the Radisson Blu hotel.

The former world title challenger then lifted the table and threw it in the direction of Whyte, but it landed on Hearn, Sky boxing chief Adam Smith and Tibbs.

Security, which had been increased because of previous clashes between the pair, then stopped the two fighters from brawling. Chisora said: “Everything was great until he started threatening my life. Threaten my life when we are in the ring all you like, but not outside.

“If this guy keeps threatening my life, what happens if I’m driving in the car with my daughter to Winter Wonderland or something and he has his friends there. What is going to happen?”

Whyte said: “I never threatened his life, I just said I’ll see him after the fight in his changing room when I go to say thanks for the fight. Dereck is crazy, why would I threaten his life?”
