‘Silly’ singer Lily proves she is a slave to Twitter...
SINGER Lily Allen faced a furious backlash yesterday after she claimed the world hated Britain because of “slavery”.
No stranger to controversy, she took to Twitter to comment on Theresa May’s Brexit plans. But the 31-yearold appeared to have her history muddled.
Her post to her nearsix million followers – rapidly deleted – read: “A Global Britain could b (sic) good, but the world still hates us cause, SLAVERY.” It led to anger and ridicule. David Shipley tweeted: “The world hates Britain for ending the slave trade? Hmm.”
Someone posted: “Silly Lily at it again! Privileged and out of touch with reality!” And another wrote: “Read a history book. Slavery is a historical human problem, not a British invention.”
Last year Lily sparked outrage when she “apologised on behalf” of Britain during a trip to a migrant camp in Calais. And earlier this month, she claimed she has “only ever been sexually assaulted by white males” in a debate with ex-English Defence League leader Tommy Robinson about migration.
