Return to the days when children ‘lived’ in the park

-

I AGREE with your correspondent about youngsters not exercising enough (Letters, January 17).

When I was at school I virtually lived at the local recreation ground, affectionately known as the park.

The council employed a number of men to look after the youngsters and keep the place in good order.

In the 1980s the grant was cut and the park keepers were done away with. We now have the situation where there are places for children to play but no supervision unless parents are there.

When I was young the park was a hive of activity with football, cricket and the swings for those who wanted them. I always say that our generation seemed to have the best of everything. Fred Turton, Sellindge, Kent
