ALAN’S TIP OF THE DAY:

Set up a small electric propagator on a windowsill indoors; wash it out well and place a layer of clean silver sand in the base so you’re ready to start sowing early seeds. Sterilise the sand inside a roasting bag in a cool oven for an hour.
