No bubbly for Fu

- HECTOR NUNNS

MARCO FU played champagne snooker to topple Judd Trump in a Masters thriller – but will not be toasting his success.

Fu, 39, was in scintillating form in a 6-5 victory at Alexandra Palace. The world No8 from Hong Kong made three century breaks, leaving Trump devastated after recording two of his own.

But Fu, who next plays Mark Allen for a place in the semi-finals, said: “I can’t touch alcohol. I’ve always been allergic to it.” Record seven-time world champion Stephen Hendry, 48, has opened the door to a Crucible return. He will play in the World Seniors in March, the winner earning a World Championship qualifying spot. SIX-TIME gold medallist David Weir has said he will never wear a GB vest again and vented his frustration at British Athletics.

Wheelchair racer Weir, 37, who missed out on a medal in Rio, wrote on Twitter: “I have been let down again. #thanksBritishAthletics, what a joke. I have just retired from GB. I will still be at the London Marathon this year.” He declined to reveal the reasons behind his dissatisfaction. 4.
