Spa report

MOONFLEET MANOR, FLEET, DORSET

- LAURA MILNE

FACILITIES

This luxury hotel overlooks Chesil Beach on Dorset’s spectacular Jurassic Coast. Aimed primarily at families, there is a wide range of suites and interconnecting rooms to suit different family groups.

Facilities include an indoor pool and sauna (on a different site from the spa treatment rooms), tennis and squash courts, creche, indoor play area, baby listening and babysitting services and a cinema.

TREATMENTS AVAILABLE

The spa has three treatment rooms and an impressive range of facials and body treatments using Elemis products. These also include men’s facials, mum-to-be massages, waxing, Jessica manicures and pedicures and mini facials for youngsters.

TREATMENTS TESTED Elemis Pro-Collagen Age Defy Facial, 60 minutes, £60

My therapist Caroline asked about my skincare routine – which is nonexistent – and any concerns I had. I mentioned fine lines and dryness. She recommended the Pro-Collagen facial to leave my skin feeling hydrated and soft and began by applying a cleansing balm to my skin, removing it with hot cloths.

After using a rose-scented exfoliator and ginseng toner, a cooling algae mask was applied. While the mask worked its magic I was treated to a relaxing hand, arm and head massage.

Next she gently peeled away the mask and used the Pro-Collagen Quartz Lift Serum to give an amazing facial massage. At the end I was delighted by how rejuvenated my skin looked.

Deep Tissue Muscle Massage, 60 minutes, £60

This treatment uses different blends of oils depending on whether you want to feel relaxed or re-energised. My therapist used Elemis Musclease Active Body Oil containing sea fennel, pine, sea buckthorn and rosemary which eases muscle pain and stressed joints.

I deliberately didn’t tell her about a particularly nagging knot halfway down my back so I was impressed when she found it almost immediately and gently worked on it to release the tension. When it came to the end of the treatment I felt wonderfully relaxed for the rest of the day and slept well at night.

GOOD POINTS

Despite the fact that the spa treatment rooms are situated close to the indoor play area, once you step inside you could be a million miles away. The restaurant caters equally well for adults and children.

WHAT DOES IT COST?

Rates from £195 per night based on two people sharing.
