PICKS OF THE DAY
Health: Super Slimmers: Did They Really Keep The Weight Off? 8pm, C4
This is an interesting concept for a show. We’ve seen weight-loss programmes in the past but this one takes a long-term view and asks if the people in question maintained their impressive weight loss. Among the six people featured is Jane Hall (left) and we see if they were able to sustain their new healthy lifestyles after the cameras stopped rolling. Plus there is a groundbreaking study on a TV star who lost 17 stone.
Drama: The Moorside, 9pm, BBC1
Shannon Matthews has been found and the local people, more than anyone, want to know the truth behind the disappearance. In spite of everything Karen is sticking to her story and denying any involvement in the abduction of her child. Friends Julie (Sheridan Smith, above) and Natalie set out to get to the bottom of things once and for all but are they ready for the whole shocking truth to emerge? Siobhan Finneran co-stars.
Science: Andrew Marr: My Brain And Me, 9pm, BBC2
When broadcaster Andrew Marr suffered a stroke in 2013 it came as a shock to a nation of viewers who respected and admired both his work and his manner. In this brave and open hour-long show, Marr (left) talks us through his personal story of recovery, taking it step by step. In the last year the broadcaster has explored a range of cutting-edge treatments for strokes and we follow his progress through them all. The cameras also capture the moments when he returns to the hospital that saved his life, including a catch-up with the consultant who sat with his family and explained to them that he may die. As well as hearing from Marr we hear the thoughts of his friends and family.
Soap: Emmerdale, 7pm, ITV
There is a lot of guilt flying around the Yorkshire Dales tonight. Ashamed over the break-in Finn admits the truth to Tracy (Amy Walsh, above with Joe Gill as Finn). Rhona is left feeling bad after she calls Pierce out for lying to her only to learn where he has really been. They announce their engagement and she decides to keep her kiss with Paddy a secret but Chas finds out and is consumed by jealousy.
Film: Pretty Woman, 10.45pm, BBC1
Released as long ago as 1990, this film never seems to get old and tonight is a chance to remind yourself of the oddly charming performances of Julia Roberts (right) and Richard Gere. They star as a ruthless millionaire and a prostitute who meet and soon fall for each other. It is a story of love conquering all and is still one of the most enjoyable big-screen love stories. NB: 11.10PM IN EIRE AND NORTHERN IRELAND, 11.45PM IN SCOTLAND
