Vokes: Team spirit will call tune

- By Peter Ferguson

WEMBLEY hopeful Sam Vokes is certain his Burnley team-mates are on the same song sheet after their trip to see chart-topping hip-hop artist Drake. Striker Vokes, whose side face non-league Lincoln at Turf Moor today, believes their camaraderie will carry Burnley all the way to football’s top gig. Team-mate Andre Gray’s social media snap of Burnley’s band of brothers enjoying the Canadian rapper’s show confirmed their team spirit extended beyond the pitch.

“Nobody really organises things, we just all go,” said Vokes. “The lads get on well – we’re friends and we socialise. It’s good to have that team spirit. I’ve never had anything like it. As a group they’re brilliant. It must show on the pitch. We’re a tight-knit group and we enjoy the good times and the bad, but it’s more good at the minute.”

Wales star Vokes, who scored in both previous rounds, is aiming for a Wembley debut: “It would be great to get there. I was a Saints fan brought up to love the FA Cup. We all remember watching finals when we were young.”

Centre-back Michael Keane insists the fear of becoming Lincoln’s latest scalp will ensure Burnley don’t slip up. Keane said: “We’re not going to take it lightly – it’ll be a tough game because they’ve done brilliantly to get this far, but we need to make sure they don’t go any further.”

He added: “We use the embarrassment of an upset as our motivation but we go about our work the same, day in day out.

“We’re professional and we never let our standards slip, so I don’t see any reason why that will happen on this occasion.”
