Sharp proof of Blades’ mettle

-

SHEFFIELD UNITED manager Chris Wilder was upbeat after his side hit back to draw 1-1 at home against promotion rivals Scunthorpe.

Billy Sharp volleyed the Blades’ equaliser early in the second half, two minutes after Paddy Madden struck for Scunthorpe, who had Harry Toffolo sent off early in the second half.

It keeps the Blades five points clear at the top and Wilder, above, said: “That was a proper performance by the boys. We’re in a great position with 13 games to go. We’re going to be a tough team to stop.”

Scunthorpe boss Graham Alexander was left fuming at the decision to send off Toffolo for a foul on Kieron Freeman.

“The red card was the harshest I’ve seen this season,” said Alexander. “It was a ridiculous decision.”

Phil Parkinson hailed the character of his Bolton side after they drew 2-2 on his return to Bradford. Charlie Wyke’s brace handed Bradford a

deserved 2-0 lead after 16 minutes before David Wheater and Gary Madine salvaged a point. “It was some game,” said Parkinson. “But what a response by the lads.”

Uwe Rosler believes his Fleetwood team can have a “sense of satisfaction and achievement” after a 1-0 win at MK Dons stretched their unbeaten run to 16 games.

Peterborough manager Grant McCann slammed his captain Chris Forrester and goalkeeper Luke McGee as Posh’s play-off hopes were hit by conceding twice in stoppage time to lose 2-0 at Walsall. Forrester was sent off for hurling abuse at the officials as Posh players furiously appealed for a foul as McGee fumbled Erhun Oztumer’s corner into his own net for Walsall’s 92nd-minute opener.

McCann said: “First, my players want to fight each other at a corner. Then the goalkeeper throws one in from a corner and then my captain wants to shout at the linesman.”
