Kane aims to make a habit of Wembley

- By Matthew Dunn

HARRY KANE is looking to continue the Wembley settling-in process on Thursday against Ghent – in the hope of at least another six trips there this season.

Tottenham must overcome a 1-0 deficit against the Belgian side to progress to the last 16 of the Europa League, a campaign that could involve a further three ‘home’ ties under the giant arch before Spurs reach the final.

Furthermore, Kane’s hat-trick against Fulham on Sunday means only League One Millwall – where the striker once spent a successful spell on loan – stand in the way of another trip to the national stadium for the FA Cup semi-final, with a possible final beyond that.

Throw in an England international against Lithuania into the mix in March and Wembley could become Kane’s home from home even before Spurs take up semi-permanent residence there next season while White Hart Lane is being redeveloped.

Kane, above, said: “We have to try to make it our home. If we get through the next round of the FA Cup, the semi-final will be at Wembley.

“We are playing there on Thursday and hopefully we will get through. We don’t know what we are doing next season – we could be there – so we want to make it as good for us as possible and win as many games as we can there and get that confidence.

“The more we play there, the further we will be going in competitions.”

Tottenham are determined to try to compete in all three remaining competitions this season and although their chase of Chelsea in the Premier League looks a forlorn one, neither the Europa League nor the FA Cup are unrealistic targets.

Sunday’s comprehensive 3-0 win against Fulham comes after back-to-back defeats against Liverpool and Ghent and manager Mauricio Pochettino called a couple of team meetings to get to the bottom of what was wrong.

Kane said: “We have been starting quite slow in games and it was just about bringing the desire back to the team, bringing that hunger back to the team, chasing down balls and running in behind. We did that great against Fulham.

“So sometimes we need that, we need a reminder of who we are and what we are about. Yes, we had a couple a couple of meetings between us and we were glad to go out on Sunday and put it right.

“Everyone is calling it a blip. It is one game away to Liverpool that we lost and away at Ghent. But if we win on Thursday it makes it a lot sweeter and it doesn’t seem as bad.”
