Just wed...couple born on same day in same hospital

- By Robert Kellaway

A COUPLE born on the same day at the same maternity ward have married 50 years later.

Alison Blackwell and James Hodges came into the world at Berkeley Hospital in Gloucestershire where they were cradled by their mothers just feet apart.

They then became classmates at Cam Hopton Primary School in Dursley and are pictured together in the official photo.

Their fathers were also work colleagues in the nuclear industry.

But when James moved school aged eight they lost touch...until five years ago when they made contact again via Friends Reunited.

Now they have married, the day after their 50th birthdays, in front of former classmates and their old primary school teacher.

Alison, a pub manager, said: “People say it’s destiny because we have so many connections.”

Wool machinist James added: “People ask us when we met. When we say ‘on the day we were born’ they are shocked.”

Alison’s mother Isabel Denning gave birth on the same day as James’s mother Linda Hodges, – February 3, 1967.

Mum-of-two Alison, who was married at 21 and divorced 10 years later, said: “We could have been in beds next to each other, we really don’t know.”

After reconnecting online the pair arranged to meet up just after Christmas in 2012.

Alison said: “We started seeing each other soon after and we’ve been together ever since. So many people have told us how crazy our story is.”

James popped the question in September 2015 while they were on holiday in Devon.

They married at Cam Methodist Church on February 4.
