Suarez ready to to teach history

- By Peter Edwards

LUIS SUAREZ believes that Barcelona are capable of making Champions League history tonight by turning around a 4-0 deficit against Paris Saint-Germain.

The Barca striker insists they can still make it through to the quarter-finals from tonight’s last-16 second leg in the Nou Camp.

“Nothing is impossible in football and if any team is capable of scoring four goals it’s Barca – but we’ll do it our way,” said Suarez.

“We need to remember the game lasts 94-95 minutes and we need to be patient and not get desperate. We can’t go crazy, we want to turn the situation around and go down in history more than anyone else but we need to play with a sense of calm.

“If we pull it off it will be the greatest game of my career. It’s one of the most important games I’ll play and we have to convince ourselves we can do it. We’re going to fight until the end.”

Barca head into the match on a high after hammering Sporting Gijon 6-1 and Celta Vigo 5-0 in their past two domestic games.

“A lot of time has passed since the first leg but the hardest thing was the first few days,” said Suarez. “That defeat hurt us a lot but a few days later we were able to lift ourselves up with a change in attitude and by scoring goals.”

No team has ever overturned a 4-0 deficit in the history of Europe’s leading competition but Barca overcame a 2-0 defeat to AC Milan in 2013 with a 4-0 win.

Sergio Ramos eased Real Madrid into the quarter-finals with a second-half double in their last-16 second-leg tie at Napoli last night.

Dries Mertens put Napoli ahead but Ramos’s struck twice soon after the interval. And Alvaro Morata made it 3-1 in injury time to give Real a 6-2 aggregate victory.
