Move right down the aisle please! Bride travels by bus

- By Geoff Maynard

HERE comes the bride...on public transport.

Yvonne Gorman, 34, stunned guests on her wedding day by travelling to the ceremony on a local bus service dressed in her bridal gown.

Yvonne opted to take public transport on her big day after deciding it would be too difficult to find parking spaces near her city centre wedding venue.

Together with 13 guests, including her father David, she arrived at the Council House Chambers in Derby after stepping off the i4 Trentbarton bus.

The dressed-up group paid the surprised driver £2 each for the 10-minute trip from her home in Chaddesden.

Fortunately, there were no delays on the service and everyone arrived on time to see Yvonne tie the knot with groom Jim Lease, 31.

Yvonne, who owns a printing business in Derby, said she kept her plans for the wedding in December last year a secret from everyone. She said yesterday: “I like to do things differently and am quite quirky and I thought the traditional cars or horse and cart would be what people expected.

“There is a bus stop right outside my house that drops off right outside the wedding venue. The journey takes 10 minutes and no one has to worry about finding a parking space so it was a win-win.

“When we walked down my drive and turned left to the bus stop, my bridesmaids couldn’t believe it. The bus driver’s face when we got on was a picture. I can still see it now.”

A picture of Yvonne now appears on the i4 bus as part of the company’s campaign to show how passengers use the service for any occasion.
