A tiny gift shop that punches above its weight with its carefully curated selection of quirky jewellery, interiors, cards and clothes. I couldn’t resist a pretty copper wire ring set with tiny amber stones. It also has an appealing collection of clothes and toys for children.

CASTOR & POLLUX
A sprawling boutique tucked cosily into the arches on the seafront, Castor & Pollux offers an array of affordable prints by local artists alongside greetings cards, traditional toys, colourful ceramics and jewellery, books and novelties.
At the back of the shop is a gallery displaying the work of local artists.

WHIRLIGIG
This retro children’s toy shop is heaven for little ones and parents alike.
It feels like stepping back in time to a more innocent age, its selection of toys inspired by the childhoods of the owners of the mini chain who vow to “fill our shops with toys that make a memory in the future”.
We bought more than we could carry including a marble run and bricks used to build animal faces. A wonderful selection.

TRIBECA
You’ll need deep pockets to shop in this upmarket womenswear boutique but it is an elegant, tranquil setting in which to glean ideas and seek sartorial inspiration.
It was one of the first British outlets to stock Isabel Marant’s gorgeous line in understated chic while other labels on offer include Vanessa Bruno, Sass & Bide and Frost French.

Silverado’s team seek handcrafted jewellery from a range of contemporary designers, some working locally. And despite the name they also sell gold vermeil (jewellery with a sterling silver base). Their jewellery lines include the work of Alex Monroe and Dinny Hall alongside lesser known up-and-coming talents.
