No place like home for Powell

- ROSS HEPPENSTALL

DARYL POWELL will be hoping for home comforts at Wheldon Road when Castleford play host to Catalans Dragons tomorrow. Powell’s Tigers were unbeaten before last Sunday’s 13-12 defeat at Salford and he is keen to get back on track. The side’s stadium, known as the Jungle, is widely regarded as one of the most intimidating arenas in rugby league and Powell wants his men to make home advantage pay.

More than 2,000 travelling supporters were left disappointed at Salford last week and head coach Powell said: “It’s great to be at home again and it’s important we turn up and put on a good show for the fans.

“There’s always a great atmosphere at Cas, but we know that wherever we’ve been this year we’ve been supported superbly.”

Catalans are famously inconsistent away from their base in Perpignan, where they were beaten by St Helens last weekend.

“They lost a tight game against Saints and got belted the week before against Leeds, so they’ve shown both sides of themselves,” said Powell.

“But we can’t worry too much about them, we need to look after ourselves and make sure that our standards are back where they need to be.”

Tigers’ Joel Monaghan replaces the injured Greg Minikin on the wing while Rangi Chase should feature after a three-match absence for disciplinary reasons.

For Catalans, forward Louis Anderson is back from injury and replaces Mickael Simon.
