Dier calls for fans to behave in ‘right way’

- TONY BANKS

ERIC DIER has pleaded for England’s fans to behave themselves at Wembley tomorrow and show respect after the terrorist outrage in London.

Dier revealed he had rung his mother, who works in central London close to the Houses of Parliament, to make sure she was OK after Wednesday’s tragedy.

England fans were heavily criticised for singing offensive songs during Wednesday’s defeat in Dortmund, when they booed and whistled during the German national anthem and sang songs referencing World War II. The FA and the police are to study video footage in a bid to identify and possibly ban those involved. Dier said: “The fans have been fantastic with us wherever we go. The

support they give is always amazing. But all we ask is that they support us in the right way and they’re respectful, because of the dreadful things that happened in London.

“We as players are going to respect everything in the right way and we’re going to do everything to honour the people who passed away this week.

“It was horrible. You never want to see things like that, especially where you live. First thing I did was ring my mum because she works not too far from there. It was just a quick call after I’d seen it on the net to make sure my family were OK.”

Both teams will wear black armbands in honour of those who died, there will be a minute’s silence plus a special memorial event before kick-off. The FA have sent an email to all fans registered with the England Supporters Club asking them to behave.
