No change... pound still slips down back of sofa
HIGH-TECH features make it the most secure coin in the world but the new £1 can still go the way of all money – down the back of the sofa.
BBC Breakfast presenter Dan Walker found himself grovelling behind the show’s red settee during a segment on the new money.
Walker, 40, and co-host Louise Minchin, 48, were given two of the 12-sided coins by the Royal Mint to preview before their release today.
The cameras returned to the studio after a pre-recorded feature on the coin – but Walker was nowhere to be seen.
He then popped his head up from behind the sofa and confessed: “I went for the first toss of the new coin. It disappeared somewhere.”
Louise laughed: “The first pound coin down the back of the sofa already.” Just as Louise was handing over to the local news, Walker popped up again brandishing his coin, delighted that he had found it.
