Oriental beef rolls

An innovative way of serving beef which is a delight to the taste buds. This recipe is ideal for a starter or can be served as a main course with rice and vegetable side dishes. Serve 2-4.

INGREDIENT­S

1 tablespoon­s cooking oil 3 tablespoon­s dark soy sauce 3 tablespoon­s light soy sauce Pinch of sugar 8 thin sirloin slices 8 asparagus stalks, trimmed 3 spring onions, halved 100g firm mushrooms, trimmed Toothpicks or small skewers Spring onions, chopped, for garnish

METHOD

1) Preheat the oven to 200C/180C fan assisted, gas mark 6 and oil a baking tray.

2) Prepare the basting sauce by mixing the dark and light soy sauces and the sugar. Set aside.

3) Lay out the beef slices and place the asparagus, spring onions and mushrooms in the middle.

4) Roll tightly and secure with toothpicks.

5) Bake for five minutes and baste the rolls with sauce. Repeat every five minutes until the beef is cooked to taste.

6) Lightly boil the remaining sauce and brush the beef again.

7) Remove the toothpicks and top with a sprinkling of spring onions to serve.
