Trampoline accidents are soaring

-

A DOCTOR has warned about a rise in accidents since the introduction of trampoline parks after a mother suffered injuries which may leave her unable to walk unaided.

Katie Mamone, 27, was left with six torn muscles, two ripped ligaments and loose cartilage in her left leg when she was celebrating her birthday last year at Oxygen Freejumping Trampoline Park in Southampton.

She told how she landed awkwardly when she tried to avoid colliding with another person and her leg buckled.

Dr Amir Qureshi, consultant knee and trauma surgeon at Southampton General Hospital said before 2010 there were barely any reported trampoline injuries and since 2014, when parks opened, there have been more than 6,000.

He said: “I am not saying they need to shut down all the trampoline parks but people need to realise the dangers. I think there should be closer supervision.”

Miss Mamone, of Fordingbridge, Hants, added: “I would like to warn others to be careful.”
