Cech: We must keep believing

-

manager Arsene Wenger are still unresolved – and there have been accusations of a lack of leaders among the players.

“When you lose three out of four, you put yourself in a difficult position,” said Cech. “It’s easy to hide behind saying we lack leaders and other teams have them. You need to see what is happening behind the scenes, how well the team work and how we operate.

“At the start of the season, we overcame a lot of games when we fell behind. Sometimes you find the answer to the difficulties you face, sometimes you don’t. On Sunday the most important was the whole discipline of the team and the effort. Everyone stuck to the plan and the individual performances were brilliant.”

There is no time to celebrate, though, as Leicester visit the Emirates tomorrow in what is rapidly becoming a run of must-win games between now and their return to Wembley on May 27. The fact that Manchester City face United on Thursday offers Arsenal a chance to gain ground on at least one of them but, with the Gunners currently seven points adrift of the top four, there is no scope for slip-ups.

“We are going to be under pressure in every game now, because the position we are in in the league,” added Cech. “We need to make sure we win every game and that the effort, focus and determination will be the same as it was on Sunday.

“The confidence we started the game with, although we fell behind, you could sense we felt it wasn’t a problem.

“In a game like the defeat by Crystal Palace, when we fell behind, it suddenly looked like we could not find the answers to overcome the deficit.

“Against City, we had the belief. We need to carry that on.

“Our target is to finish as high as possible. We have games in hand but the situation in the league is a bit complicated, so we will only be able to judge how we’ve done at the end of the season. But if we don’t qualify for the Champions League, it will obviously be a big loss and a big disappointment.”
