Girls Aloud star’s ex in threats to burn her
THE ex-boyfriend of Girls Aloud singer Nicola Roberts has been given a lifetime restraining order after he bombarded her with messages.
Former soldier and Afghanistan veteran Carl Davies threatened to stab and burn the girlband star.
Davies set up 35 fake sites to send thousands of Twitter and Instagram messages and flowers to the flamehaired singer’s office, a court heard.
Miss Roberts never replied but the target changed to her friend, R&B singer Joel Compass, at which point Nicola, 31, called the police.
Davies had been the star’s boyfriend at the height of the Girls Aloud fame but the pair split in 2008.
The harassment started in 2012 and continued until Davies was arrested in February and remanded in custody until the court hearing.
In an impact statement, read to Guildford Crown Court, the singer said: “The messages reminded me of all the terrible things that happened when we were together.”
Writing it in March, she said: “I feel safe in my home knowing he can’t get to me. I am worried for when Carl gets out and when he can access a mobile phone again.” The singer also said: “It was like walking on eggshells when we were together.”
Davies, of Flint, North Wales, admitted stalking and persistent use of public communication to cause annoyance. He was jailed for 15 months, suspended for two years.
Davies was given a lifetime order not to contact the singer or Mr Compass, told to pay £800 costs plus a £100 victim surcharge, do 150 hours of unpaid work and complete a 60-day rehabilitation activity.
