Day of chaos that proved why Mrs May must be PM

-

OUT on the campaign trail Theresa May has repeatedly warned voters about the danger of Jeremy Corbyn making it into Number 10 at the head of a “coalition of chaos”. Yesterday, a day of utter chaos for the Labour Party, proved her point.

As Tim Newark writes on this page the hard-Left policies contained within Labour’s leaked manifesto would spell disaster for this country and take us back to the dark days of the 1970s. But as well as discussing the numerous problems with the policies concerned, we must also consider what this says about Corbyn and his acolytes.

When we vote, we are not just choosing between the different sets of policies the parties have put forward. We are also choosing a prime minister who will have to negotiate with foreign powers, deal with unforeseen events, manage crises and take charge of the day-to-day running of a huge number of different agencies and departments.

To that end, the character, integrity and intelligence of a party leader is vital. We have to ask ourselves if we can really trust them to deal properly with all of those things.

Corbyn’s operation yesterday was, as the Prime Minister put it, “shambolic”. This is a man who couldn’t keep his manifesto under wraps for a few days and then responded poorly when it was leaked – how can we possibly put him in charge of government?

Even if Corbyn had the best manifesto in the world – and it is quite obvious that he does not – he would be a liability in Number 10.
