GENERAL Election campaigning was suspended yesterday in the wake of the Manchester bombing.
Flags in Downing Street and Westminster were lowered to half mast as rival politicians came together to pay their respects to the victims. Last night it was unclear how long this pause will last.
Campaigning in last year’s EU referendum was suspended for four days following the murder of MP Jo Cox.
The SNP postponed its manifesto launch in Scotland yesterday, while today’s Ukip manifesto launch in London was also delayed until a later date.
Party leader Paul Nuttall said: “In light of what’s happened I have suspended the Ukip General Election campaign.”
Jeremy Corbyn condemned the “unspeakable act of horror against wholly

innocent young people” as he visited Manchester. The Labour leader said he had seen the “sadness and shock” on people’s faces in the city.
Scottish Conservative leader Ruth Davidson said Manchester people had responded with “courage and decency in the face of cowardice and evil”.
And SNP First Minister Nicola Sturgeon said: “My thoughts are with the victims, their families and all those who have been affected by this barbaric attack in Manchester.”
Liberal Democrat leader Tim Farron said: “The country is united in grief after this devastating attack.”
