Dettori having a right Crack

- By Chris Goulding

FRANKIE DETTORI made a convincing case for winning a third Investec Derby with Cracksman after he partnered the colt in a workout at Epsom yesterday.

“He was very good this morning,” said Dettori, whose previous successes in the Classic came aboard Authorized (2007) and Golden Horn (2015).

“He’s not a Golden Horn yet, by any means, but potentially he could be anything.

“He’s a horse that can be very competitive and an ideal one to go to war with. I’m excited.”

Cracksman, the 4-1 jointfavourite with Cliffs Of Moher for the big race on Saturday week, lacks the experience of Golden Horn, but this does not concern Dettori – and he is not worried about ground conditions either.

“He’s a horse that has only run twice and you would expect him to improve,” said Dettori before dashing off to appear on ITV’s Loose Women show. “I was pleased with his run at Epsom last month in the Derby Trial.

“I’ve said it many times that Golden Horn winning the Derby was the biggest emotional thing I’ve had in my 30-year career.

“I think it will be very difficult to top it. The Derby is the best racing day of the year, but it’s only the best racing day of the year if you win it!”

Martyn Meade, trainer of Eminent, was also buzzing after his colt worked over the Derby course.

“I was absolutely thrilled – it couldn’t have gone any better,” said Meade.
