Hate-filled poison of fanatics nothing to do with Islam

-

AS the imam of hundreds of Muslims living in Hillingdon, I condemn the barbaric attack in Manchester in the strongest terms. My heartfelt prayers and sympathies are with the people of Manchester and all those affected (“Evil beyond belief”, May 24).

Such atrocities and violence against innocent people can never be justified. Whatever the intention of the extremists, as unambiguously put by the Head of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community, Hazrat Mirza Masroor Ahmad: “Let it be clear that they (the terrorists) are not practising Islam, rather it seems as though they have invented their own hate-filled and poisonous religion.”

The name of Islam literally means peace and so even the name itself rejects all forms of terrorism, extremism and compulsion. Islam champions peace, freedom, love and security for all mankind. I hope we continue to show our true greatness. When we come together as Great Britain we are a force to be reckoned with like no other. Imam Mansur Ahmed, Hillingdon, Gtr London
