PM needs to address issue of sky-high care home fees

THERESA May’s promise to cap care payments is a step in the right direction (“May responds to critics with cap on cost of care”, May 23).

But what is needed is for fees to be reduced to a reasonable level. With care homes costing more than a room in an expensive hotel, you can’t help but think someone is making a huge profit at the expense of the old, ill and helpless.

Mrs May plans to cap excessive charges in the energy market.

She should also cap excessive charges in the care industry with many nursing homes currently charging £1,000-£1,200 per week. David Kilpatrick,
